Our parent entity, Inner Western Workskills Inc, has a long history of delivering many of these services in a not-for-profit capacity. However, with government contracts being opened up to commercial competition, legislative requirements made it necessary to establish a different corporate structure that was more compatible with commercial operations.
In fact, this year marks the twentyfirst anniversary of the founding of Inner Western Workskills Inc. During this time the Organisation has grown from employing five staff with an annual turnover of $200,000 to more than sixty staff and turnover of over $7,000,000 annually.
Our employment and training services, initially delivered from a 10m² office on the Bowden Brompton railway line, can now be accessed from four very impressive premises totalling some 3,000m² and providing coverage of the South Western, North Western and North Eastern regions of Adelaide. From these sites, the Organisation delivers a range of tailored employment and training services that include:
- Traineeship services to hundreds of employers and trainees under the State Government's 'User Choice' scheme, Vocational courses and personal development training to job seekers through our Registered Training Organisation
- Language, Literacy & Numeracy assistance to disadvantaged people across the Adelaide metropolitan area through the Commonwealth's Language, Literacy & Numeracy Program
- Productivity Places Program
The future of the Organisation is not so much tied up with the achievement of outcome-measured performance as it is with the maintenance of its value systems.
There is no doubt that the success of Status comes from the individuals who comprise the Organisation and who collectively share a sense of unity and purpose. There is pride in the work of the Organisation and above all else faith and trust in its leadership. This is a privilege that has always been respected.
The work of successive Boards of Management and an exceptionally talented group of staff has produced a unique Organisation that continues to deliver a wide range of employment and training programs, innovative service delivery models and entrepreneurial business activities.
For many years, Inner Western Workskills was the benchmark against which other organisations were compared. We achieved outstanding success both contractually and financially throughout this time, and these successes are now being carried into the future through Status. We are excited about future growth opportunities, and already the Organisation has grown to the point where we are considered a medium sized business in South Australia.
To ensure on-going success, our objectives for the future remain straightforward:
- Satisfied Employees
- Satisfied Customers
- Success in the Marketplace
As a team we will achieve this, recognising that it is the people of Status who will shape its future, as it is the culture of the Organisation that will ensure its success.
