Welcome......

......to the world Jackson Packer. With his luck unbridled like a pair of Matt Shirvington’s running shorts, strung up on a back yard hills hoist, Jackson Packer, first son and heir to the Packer business dynasty was born on 1st February this year and, along with sister Indigo, assures the 4th generation of business moguls following on from Sir Frank, Kerry and father James.

Which begs the familial business question, if the first generation tends it, and the second generation extends it and the third spends it, (and James is doing a good job of that with his land acquisitions and casino building in Las Vegas and Macau), what does the 4th generation do? Mend it? Give it away to the Church Of Scientology? These conundrums and the Australian Government’s insulation program have been keeping me awake recently.

Anyway, how is your business shaping up in 2010? Are you in agreement with the Federal Reserve and our elected State and Commonwealth government representatives that the road ahead is all smooth sailing? Or is that a mixed metaphor only Barnaby Joyce or Sir Joh Bjelke Petersen would utter? Not convinced about the state of our economy, well how about access to the Packer family fortune, estimated at $3.6 billion, would that help? No, well how about a pink batt from the Australian Government then?

Enough, welcome to Status enews for 2010. We do hope that your business has prospered since last we published. This will be our 4th year producing Status enews and our readership has steadily grown over this time. At the commencement of year one, we had 250 subscribers and in year two numbers more than doubled to 650. However, last year subscriber numbers increased from 900 at the start of our publishing season to 1,650 at year end. That’s good growth in any form of endeavour.

However, one thing has remained constant throughout this time, and that is the number of people who join our free footy tipping competition. With only around 100 tippers each year, there is plenty of opportunity to pick up a weekly, mid year or end of season prize. Again, we extend an invitation to all of you to join our Status Footy Tipping Competition for the 2010 AFL season. Round 1 kicks off on Thursday 25th March and there are great prizes to be won, including the grand prize of your choice of holiday travel to the value of $2,000, and it’s absolutely free to join!

Each week, during the 2010 AFL football season, we will again publish a brief newsletter that will:

In most editions we will also provide discussion and advice about the dynamics of the labour market and employment related issues as well as tips on how to achieve or extend your business success. This year we may also provide some business case studies highlighting some of our and your business success stories. We hope you find this information interesting and informative.

On behalf of the Board of Management and staff of Status Employment Services we wish you and your business a prosperous year and look forward to assisting you in the future. Oh, and if you are going to support the Crows or the Power this year, wave your pink batt around a bit and help stimulate the economy.
